Sanplex: A Complete Process Management Solution for the Full R&D Lifecycle

The evolution of Sanplex into a complete process management solution covering the full R&D lifecycle did not happen overnight. As Artem Borodin, Chief Product Officer and Partner at Sanplex, puts it, “It is a mature solution that was formally launched externally after years of hands-on experience serving enterprises across industries and the systematic refinement of our internal proprietary management system.”

In the course of serving enterprises, the company gained precise insight into core client needs: ‘standard implementation, personalized adaptation, and integrated functionality.’ Based on this practical experience, it embedded industry standards and best practices, validated directly by customers, into its namesake ALM solution, Sanplex. It enables teams to develop standardized work habits and strengthen project management capabilities while supporting flexible customization, forming a management closed loop of ‘standard implementation + enterprise-specific adaptation.’ “It is precisely this independent thinking and innovative spirit that allows us to create a solution that truly balances standardization with personalization,” says Borodin.Sanplex ALM Flow Chart

Embedded AI capabilities further strengthen this loop, making standardized processes more efficient and personalized adaptation more intelligent. The intelligent core of Sanplex lies in its built-in AI capabilities, including an AI engine, intelligent agents, digital employees, AI analytics, and AI alerts. Together, these elevate R&D management to a new level, improving task execution efficiency and overall productivity.

Core capabilities are natively integrated, eliminating the need for additional plugins and enabling enterprises to launch standardized R&D processes quickly. The result is a complete process management solution that bridges the gap between industry standards and enterprise individuality while removing the need for patchwork. It helps users handle R&D tasks more efficiently, optimize workflows, and address core bottlenecks in enterprise R&D management.

Following its launch, Sanplex went on to serve more than 25,000 customers, including industry stalwarts like BYD, Dell, Hitachi, KDDI, Skechers, Walmart, and Lenovo. Continuous iteration based on real customer feedback has enabled the product to align closely with the evolving R&D needs of growing enterprises. “Sanplex’s practical value has been widely validated, helping enterprises increase R&D delivery efficiency by an average of 28%, improve delivery quality by an average of 32%, and raise per-capita efficiency by an average of 22.5%,” notes Borodin.

Sanplex Evolution Driven by Customer Challenges

Sanplex ALM Structure ChartTo cover the full R&D lifecycle, growing enterprises are often forced to adopt a patchwork model of ‘core tool + plugins + third-party systems.’ This approach fragments data, creates frequent process breaks, and leaves enterprises without mature, industry-standard workflows. “As a result, they get stuck between two bad choices: rigidly copying standards or falling into chaos through excessive customization,” says Borodin. In such cases, tools end up slowing down R&D instead of accelerating it.

Sanplex addresses this challenge by abstracting standard industry processes and best practices into 274 functional modules and 2,265 functional points built directly into the system, eliminating heavy plugin dependency. “R&D data is linked natively, processes connect seamlessly, and enterprises can define their own workflows on top of preset ones,” he adds.

Another key challenge is the difficulty of cascading enterprise strategy down to the execution layer. Feedback on execution deviations often arrives too late, while collaboration across teams and product lines lacks unified control, leading to imbalanced resource allocation. To address this, Sanplex introduces a four-layer management architecture that creates a closed loop between strategy and execution:

  • The program/portfolio layer serves as the coordination center for strategy and resources
  • The product layer defines and plans corporate strategy
  • Project management translates strategic intent into actionable plans
  • Execution management tracks the concrete work of each team

“Through this four-layer architecture, from strategy to implementation, Sanplex forms a complete closed loop of ‘strategy → execution → feedback → adjustment,’” explains Borodin.

Enterprises also struggle to adapt to multiple development models. Many operate in hybrid Agile + Waterfall environments, but traditional tools fail to support both effectively on a single platform, causing disconnects between software and hardware development. Sanplex addresses this with rich, built-in project management models, including Scrum, Kanban, Waterfall, and hybrid methodologies. Teams can adopt what they need without additional plugins, with workflows remaining natively compatible and data seamlessly linked.Sanplex ALM Scrum Flowchart

Additional challenges include compliance and deployment. Sanplex embeds compliance standards directly into the system, creating a standardized and traceable process from requirements to release, with automatic preservation of the full evidence chain. This ensures compliance becomes an integral part of every R&D stage rather than a checklist exercise.

On the deployment front, Sanplex offers a flexible dual-deployment model, supporting both lightweight private deployment and secure cloud deployment with identical functionality. Core capabilities are built in natively, requiring no additional configuration. Enterprises can switch seamlessly between deployment modes as they scale, preserving processes, data, and configurations while reducing overall costs.

Sanplex also simplifies migration from existing tools. It provides lightweight migration options via APIs, files, and databases, fully supporting secure migration of Jira core business data and Confluence documents, along with incremental synchronization. Built on a natively integrated architecture, Sanplex matches Jira’s core functionality while also including capabilities from widely used plugins such as BigGantt, Confluence, and Zephyr. This enables enterprises to manage R&D on a single platform while eliminating plugin compatibility issues and operational complexity.

Addressing Client Challenges, Sketching Success Stories

Sanplex ALM DashboardSanplex primarily serves growing enterprises engaged in in-house product development and seeking to improve efficiency through stronger management practices. These organizations typically face rapid expansion of both business and R&D teams, requiring standardized management systems that are cost-effective and easy to implement. Sanplex addresses these needs through complete functionality, a robust framework, a cohesive conceptual system, and strong cost efficiency.

In its collaboration with BYD, Sanplex identified key challenges: a global R&D organization with tens of thousands of employees, multiple business tracks, hybrid software-hardware development, a disconnect between strategy and execution, and imbalanced resource allocation. Traditional tools based on plugin patchwork failed to support these requirements or meet ASPICE’s full-chain traceability standards.

To address these challenges, Sanplex embedded automotive industry standards and best practices directly into the system while configuring enterprise-specific review processes to support large-scale R&D operations.

The results were significant: the four-layer architecture enabled seamless transmission of strategy to execution; resource allocation improved across product lines; hybrid management supported parallel software and hardware development with full synchronization; and end-to-end data traceability met ASPICE compliance requirements. Overall, R&D delivery efficiency improved, quality was enhanced, compliance risks were reduced, and BYD’s ‘software-defined vehicle’ strategy gained a unified management foundation.

“Sanplex is not just an ALM solution provider – it is an enabler of R&D management value that aligns with industry characteristics and bridges standards with enterprise individuality,” says Borodin.

Continuing Evolution to Become the Go-To Provider of Intelligent ALM Solutions

“Sanplex’s long-term goal is to become the world’s most sought-after provider of intelligent ALM solutions,” states Borodin. Moving forward, the company will focus on two key areas: enhancing core product capabilities and building an application marketplace to deliver greater end-to-end value.

Sanplex is advancing toward AI-native capabilities across the full lifecycle. AI will be deeply embedded into R&D management processes, with intelligent agents assisting in requirement refinement, task decomposition, and more. Enhanced analytics and alert systems will proactively identify risks such as delays and quality issues, while digital employees will take over repetitive tasks, freeing up R&D teams for higher-value work.

The platform is also evolving to support full DevOps lifecycle integration, breaking down silos between development and operations. This will enable seamless linkage across requirements, tasks, defects, and code repositories, improving continuity and accelerating time-to-production.

In parallel, Sanplex is building a dedicated application marketplace to extend its core capabilities. The marketplace will support multiple plugin types and open API interfaces to third parties, creating an ecosystem of ‘standardized capabilities + personalized extensions.’

Sanplex continues to evolve with a clear focus: supporting growing enterprises, aligning innovation with real-world R&D needs, and becoming a trusted long-term partner in enterprise R&D management.
