Nvidia and MediaTek, two prominent players in the computing industry, have announced a partnership aimed at providing global automakers with the necessary hardware and software to deliver innovative AI-driven experiences in next-generation connected cars.
The announcement was made during the ongoing Computex trade show in Taiwan, where MediaTek CEO Rick Tsai and Nvidia founder and CEO Jensen Huang expressed their commitment to combining their respective competencies in the automotive sector. Their shared goal is to create a “truly unique platform” that caters to the demands of compute-intensive, software-defined vehicles of the future.
Tsai highlighted the significance of the collaboration, stating, “Nvidia is a world-renowned pioneer and industry leader in AI and computing. With this partnership, our collaborative vision is to provide a global one-stop shop for the automotive industry, designing the next generation of intelligent, always-connected vehicles.” Huang echoed this sentiment, emphasizing how AI and accelerated computing are driving a transformative shift in the entire automotive industry. He added, “The combination of MediaTek’s industry-leading system-on-chip along with Nvidia’s GPU and AI software technologies will enable new user experiences, enhanced safety, and new connected services across vehicle segments, from luxury to entry-level.”
The joint efforts of Nvidia and MediaTek are expected to yield their first products by late 2025, signifying an exciting step forward in the realm of connected cars.
To achieve their shared objectives, MediaTek will develop automotive systems-on-chip (SoCs) and integrate Nvidia’s GPU chiplet, which incorporates Nvidia’s AI and graphics intellectual property, into the design architecture. These chiplets will be connected using a high-speed, low-latency, and coherent chiplet interconnect technology.
Furthermore, MediaTek will leverage Nvidia’s software technologies, such as the DRIVE OS, DRIVE IX, CUDA, and TensorRT, to enable connected infotainment and in-cabin convenience and safety functions on the new automotive SoCs. This collaboration expands the range of in-vehicle infotainment options available to automakers using Nvidia’s DRIVE platform.
By capitalizing on Nvidia’s expertise in AI, cloud, graphics technology, and software ecosystem, and combining it with Nvidia’s advanced driver assistance systems, MediaTek aims to enhance the capabilities of its Dimensity Auto platform.
